Opening our doors to Clare Coburn
In December Melbourne-based Clare Coburn delighted Christchurch storytellers, writers, counsellors, mediators, educators and lovers of story and humanity with two workshops held in the beautiful and rugged Travis Wetlands Centre on the north-eastern reaches of the city. The first worskhop, entitled 'Crossing the Threshold', explored moments of insight and transformation. Thresholds are moments of change in stories, and serve to help the teller navigate through a story. We gained storytelling skills and explored thresholds in our own lives, gaining awareness of thresholds as places to encourage transformation in our personal, community and organisational lives.
The second workshop, 'Radical Receptivity', took place over two full days with the aim of developing the patient power of listening. During these days we explored our innate capacity to listen with others and developed our listening skills; heard and explored the learning contained in wise stories from world traditions, our own lives, and from the lives of others; and investigated various theories of listening. Both workshops were rich, warm, welcoming and creative. The expressions of fulfilment from the participants overflowed and we all went home feeling more connected to ourselves, our creativity and to others. Thank you Clare! . |
